Magma and ARM Sign Agreement for IP Access and Reference Flow Development

Following Several Successful Implementations by Customers, Magma to Develop Fully Validated Design Flow for ARM Cores from RTL to GDS

CUPERTINO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 28, 2003-- Magma Design Automation Inc. (Nasdaq: LAVA), a provider of chip design solutions, today announced that Magma will have access to ARM(R) microprocessor IP and will develop a fully validated IP implementation flow using Blast Create(TM), Blast Fusion(R) and Blast Noise(R) products. The two companies will work together to ensure high-quality results for implementing the cores in the most widely used process technologies. The documented flow including scripts and design guidelines will be published by Magma in the third quarter of 2003.

This relationship is a direct result of feedback from Magma customers such as Faraday, Fujitsu, Intersil, Samsung, STMicroelectronics and Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC). These, and other mutual customers of Magma and ARM, have successfully implemented ARM cores in a combination of 0.25-micron, 0.18-micron, 0.13-micron and 90-nanometer processes

"We have developed our own methodology to embed ARM IP in Toshiba SoC designs using Magma solutions, and this cooperation between ARM and Magma is an important step for the industry," said Hideki Yamada, director of the EDA group, TAEC. "This validated flow will enable a much shorter core implementation time with predictable performance."

Initially Magma will focus on the most widely used cores such as the ARM926EJ-S(TM) and the ARM946E-S(TM) cores. After this, the design flow will be developed for the ARM10(TM) and ARM11(TM) core families.

"By offering developers a complete embedded solution, from our industry-leading microprocessor cores to proven design methodologies that accelerate the implementation of our IP, ARM continues to provide innovative technologies that further reduce time to market for our partners," said Noel Hurley, director of EDA Alliances, ARM. "By working with companies like Magma, we can provide developers with efficient and timely implementations of our IP."

"As ARM is the provider of the most widely used IP architecture for the digital world, we have been able to work with ARM to make our customers' job much easier through this validated IP implementation flow," said Nitin Deo, vice president of business development, Magma. "Many customers have already leveraged our integrated RTL-to-GDSII flow that includes noise avoidance and repair to produce much better quality of results. We intend to formalize that flow for our customers."

About Magma Design Automation

Magma software is used to design fast, multimillion-gate integrated circuits, providing "The Fastest Path from RTL to Silicon"(TM), enabling chip designers to reduce the time required to produce complex ICs. Magma's products for prototyping, synthesis, and place & route provide a single executable for RTL-to-GDSII chip design. The company's Blast Create(TM), Blast Fusion(R), Blast Fusion APX(TM), Blast Plan(TM) and Blast Noise(R) products utilize Magma's patented FixedTiming(R) methodology and single data model architecture to reduce the timing-closure iterations often required between the logic and physical processes in conventional IC design flows.

Magma maintains headquarters in Cupertino, Calif., as well as facilities in Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego, Calif.; Boston, Mass.; Durham, N.C.; Austin and Dallas, Texas; Newcastle, Wash.; and in Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Israel, Japan, Korea, the Netherlands, Taiwan and the United Kingdom. The company's stock trades on Nasdaq under the ticker symbol LAVA. Visit Magma Design Automation on the Web at www.magma-da.com.
